Cute Layered Crochet Flowers

In keeping with my drive to finish anything and everything before this baby comes, today I finished this baby blanket that I started over a year ago. Here is the pattern for these cute layered flowers I used to decorate the edge.

Use a magic circle to crochet into, you can find directions here.

Bottom Layer: *ch 2, 3 tr, ch 2, slst* repeat 8 times (9 petals) fasten off
Middle Layer: *ch 2, 3 tr, ch 2, slst* repeat 6 times (7 petals) fasten off
Top Layer: *ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, slst* repeat 4 times (5 petals) fasten off
Adjust the size of your magic circle so that each center hole is smaller than the layer above. I made the top layer as tight as possible and adjusted each layer from there. Carefully tie the remaining tails together to set the ring size.

Use the tails from the section above to sew each section together at each petal. Only stitch close to the center so that the petals are loose, then clip the tails.

amigurumi orange

The kids love taking this apart. I used dk weight wool yarn in bright orange, off white, dark green and dark brown and a 2.7mm hook (size 2).

Slices (make 8 - 7 around and 1 for the middle)
form an adjustable/magic ring (I like this method cause it makes a tight center)
rnd1: sc 6x
rnd2: sc 2x in each stitch (12)
rnd3: *sc, 2sc next st* repeat around (18)
rnd4: *sc in next 2 st, 2sc* (24)
rnd5: *sc x 3, 2sc* (30)
rnd6: *sc x 4, 2sc* (36)
rnd7: (work in back loops only) slst in next 2 st, sc x 14, slst x 4, sc x 14, slst, turn
rnd8: (work in both loops) slst x 2, sc x 10, slst, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing
fold the slice in half. the ends with the slsts will be the top and bottom. use the tail to sew together the two sides stuffing as you go.

inner peel (off white)
form an adjustable/magic ring
rnd1: sc x6
rnd2: *2sc* (12)
rnd3: *sc, 2sc* (18)
rnd4: *sc x 2, 2sc* (24)
rnd5: *sc x 3, 2sc* (30)
rnd6: *sc x 4, 2sc* (36)
rnd7: *sc x 5, 2sc* (42)
rnd8: *sc x 6, 2sc* (48)
rnd 9-14: sc in each st
rnd15: *sc x7, sc2tog* (42)
start of the separation
rnd16: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 12, sc2tog
rnd17: ch1, turn, sc across (14)
rnd18: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 10, sc2tog
rnd19: ch1, turn, sc across (12)
rnd19: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 8, sc2tog
rnd20: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 6, sc2tog
rnd21: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 4, sc2tog
rnd22: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 2, sc2tog
rnd23: ch1, turn, sc2tog x 2
rnd24: ch1, turn, sc2tog fasten off and weave in end
join yarn in the same stitch used at the end of rnd15, sc the st you joined to and the next st together, sc x 12, sc2tog, follow the instructions for rnd17-24 to make the next section, repeat again joining at the end of row 16 of the last section you made to make the final section.

outer peel (bright orange)
follow the pattern for the inner peel but make the ball 1 row bigger by increasing another row (rnd9: *sc x 7, 2sc* (54)) and adding 1 more row of sc to the straight section (7 rows instead of 6). when you get to the separation section follow these directions:
rnd18: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 14, sc2tog
rnd19: ch1, turn, sc x 16
rnd20: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 12, sc2tog
rnd21: ch1, turn, sc x 14
rnd22: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 10, sc2tog
rnd23: ch1, turn, sc x 12 (12)
rnd24: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 8, sc2tog (10)
rnd25: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 6, sc2tog (8)
rnd26: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 4, sc2tog (6)
rnd27: ch1, turn, sc2tog, sc x 2, sc2tog (4)
rnd28: ch1, turn, sc2tog x 2 (2)
rnd29: ch1, turn, sc2tog, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing
make 2 more sections joining where the last section left off and repeating rnd 18-29. sc evenly around each of the sections weave in end. tuck the inner peel inside the outer peel. use the tail you left at the top of each section to sew the inner and outer peel together going down one side of the section and up the next section tie off and weave in end. use the next tail in the same way.

stem (dark brown)
ch 7, sc in the 2nd st from hook, sc x 5, ch1, turn sc x 6, fasten off and leave a tail to sew the 2 sides together the long way. if you want the stem to curve pull the sewing tight. attach to the outer peel using the tail, fasten off and weave in end.

leaf (dark green)
I used dk weight wool, number 2 hook and the pattern found here.

booties for our soon to be

The nesting bug has taken hold and I am in major project mode. Today I finished these cute baby booties. You can buy the pattern here. For the booties I used 2 strands of a silk bamboo yarn to get the required worsted weight and an H hook. For the flowers I used 2 strands of a dk weight wool yarn and a G hook.
